With the Boom of Netflix over the recent years, Amazon Prime to most seems to have taken a back seat, though we were still hearing people ask questions about it and what it actually was. Ever the investigative types, we took a look into Amazons ‘prime’ feature and what we found was actually quite surprising.
What is Amazon Prime?
When we asked people what they thought Amazon Prime was, it was surprising how many answers we got back. Some said it was a streaming service; a rival to Netflix, others said it was Amazons next day delivery option but all in all, most weren’t actually sure.
Amazon Prime is basically the holy grail of Amazon. By signing up to the service you get pretty much everything, and when we say everything we mean everything:
- Unlimited, free one-day delivery
- Unlimited instant streaming that gives you access to a ridiculous amount of movies and TV shows, most of which we must add you can’t find anywhere else in the UK
- Allows you access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library where you can borrow any of the thousands of titles available
- Unlimited and secure photo storage
- Access to prime music where you can listen to over 2 million songs
Crazy right?! It turns out Amazon isn’t actually a rival to Netflix but rather the ultimate membership to the Amazon Club.
But is it actually worth it?
We wanted to know if becoming an exclusive Amazon Prime member was actually worth it, so we tried it out. We signed up for the 30-day free trial and took a look at the features ourselves and this is how we got on:
One day delivery
Okay, so this feature is something we could get used to. The first thing we tried was one-day delivery and you know what, it had us sold. There’s nothing worse than ordering something and it taking weeks to arrive at your door, Amazon has somehow bypassed the annoyingly long shipping window and managed to provide us with the ultimate online shopping service. Other’s who lived quite close to an Amazon warehouse actually placed the order and it came the same day!
Prime members also get exclusive early access to deals on Amazon.co.uk. With your Prime membership, you get access to Amazon Lightning Deals 30 minutes before other customers so you’ll be the first to get access to the best deals and also have access to one-day delivery!
Firstly, we were able to download Prime Video on the following: Fire TV Stick, tablets, smart TVs, game consoles, mobile phones and laptops. We are aware that there are more options but these are the ones that we tried.
The first thing that stood out for us was the Amazon Original Series which you basically, can’t get anywhere else. These were programs like Man in the High Castle, Bosch, Transparent, and also exclusive series like Mr. Robot, Vikings, Outlander or Ripper Street.
One feature that really came in handy especially on those long commutes was the ability to download your favourite Prime videos on your mobile or tablet to watch on the go, NO WI-FI NEEDED!
Another feature we were unaware that Amazon Prime offered was Amazon Family. Amazon Family is free for eligible current Amazon Prime customers. With Amazon Family, customers have access to all Prime benefits and are eligible to save 20% off nappies ordered through Subscribe & Save and other exclusive discounts and deals.
It’s definitely worth a look to save yourself some dough.
Kindle Owner’s Lending Library
As proud bookworms, this one had us excited. Kindle Owner’s Lending Library gives you access to thousands of titles in Fiction or non-fiction books, best sellers and lost classics. You can borrow one book a month, with no due date! It’s the book lovers dream…
Amazon hasn’t just considered the family’s with their discounts and special offers, students can also get in on the action. Prime Student gives students all the benefits of the Prime membership, with a 6-month trial and then 50% off the normal price!
We looked into the Amazon Prime Membership with slight scepticism because, in all honesty, we didn’t really understand it. After trying out its features we realised that it was so much more than we first thought. With the multitude of discounts and delivery options available exclusively to Amazon Prime members, that alone was worth the cost. The Prime Video option was awesome, we were able to watch all the latest and exclusive shows on all different devices without any buffering or having to sit there scrolling through for hours trying to find something worth watching.
The Amazon music feature was definitely a bonus. Music plays a huge role in most of our lives to having access to pretty much every song we could think of at the click of a button was definitely a feature we were in love with.
Don’t take our word for it, try it for free yourself…
Rather than taking our word as gospel, why not take advantage of the 30-day free trial available or the 6-month free trial option available for students.
The beauty of the free trials are that if they’re not for you, you can cancel at any time free of charge, so just try it for your self.
